Nowadays the importance of environmental issues and sustainable tourism development are growing. Aim of the article is to identify the impact of tourism on the environment and to identify tools, which eliminate the negative impacts of tourism on the environment. In 1998 World Tourism Organization established megatrends, that will influence the development of international tourism beginning of the 21st century and one of them is the growing importance of ecotourism. The article deals with characteristic of sustainable tourism development, ecotourism and environmental management in tourist enterprises.
